Intro to Interviewing and Investigation skills - Half Day

  • Who Should attend: Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Principals, Vice Principals, HIB Coordinators/Specialists, Counselors, Affirmative Action Officers, School Security Officers
  • Course Description: Participants will be presented with essential skills and information for developing and carrying out effective investigation plans, including interviewing and questioning techniques and strategies for managing complex investigations


Advanced Interviewing and Investigation skills - Half Day or Full Day

  • Who Should attend: Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Principals, Vice Principals, HIB Coordinators/Specialists, Counselors, Affirmative Action Officers, School Security Officers
  • Course Description: This workshop will include advanced investigation techniques, including handwriting analysis, understanding body language, writing reports, and conducting interviews, with intensive use of role plays and scenarios. Participants will receive individualized feedback and suggestions for honing their skills


Fundamentals of Search and Seizure - Full Day

  • Who Should attend: Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Principals, Vice Principals, HIB Coordinators/Specialists, Counselors, Teachers, Coaches, School Security Officers
  • Course Description: Students are entitled to be free of unreasonable searches and seizures in school, but what is “reasonable” in the eyes of the law? This session will explore the legal standard and how it has been applied to searches of students, school property, and students’ belongings, including electronic devices and vehicles.  Key court decisions in NJ and the US Supreme Court involving searches of students.  Random substance abuse testing of students.  Distinctions between searches by school officials and by law enforcement officers. Memorandum of agreement between schools and law enforcement. Scope of searches of students’ electronic devices
